Hey there,
A marketing manager messaged me yesterday: "I've posted daily for 6 months. Still stuck at 5-8 likes per post. Zero conversions. What am I doing wrong?"
I looked at her content. Professional. Consistent. Completely generic.
"5 marketing tips." "Industry trends." "Monday motivation."
She's creating content for the algorithm. The algorithm isn't even rewarding her.
And her ideal customers? They're scrolling right past.
The Real Problem
You're creating Stage 1 content when your prospects are stuck at Stage 3.
Most marketers create content like this:
80% Awareness content - "5 tips," broad advice, trending topics
15% Education content - Some how-to guides
5% Decision content - Almost nothing that helps people actually buy
Then they wonder why engagement is low AND conversions are zero.
Here's the truth: Awareness content is overcrowded. Everyone creates it. The algorithm buries it. Prospects ignore it.
Meanwhile, decision-stage content has zero competition and actually converts.
The 3-Stage Fix
Stop creating content by format or platform. Map it to where your prospects actually are.
Stage 1: Problem Recognition
Their question: "Is this problem big enough to fix?"
Bad content: "5 productivity tips for teams" Good content: "We calculated the cost of manual invoicing for 20-person teams: ₹8.2L/year in wasted salary"
Why it works: Specific enough that the right people think "Wait, is this us?"
Stage 2: Solution Evaluation
Their question: "What are my options? Should I buy or build?"
Bad content: "Top 10 tools for marketers"
Good content: "Build vs buy: A realistic cost breakdown for 15-50 person teams choosing project management software"
Why it works: Helps them make a decision (even if they don't buy from you yet). Builds trust.
Stage 3: Purchase Decision
Their question: "Will this work for someone like me?"
Bad content: "Why we're the best solution" Good content: "How a 12-person remote team implemented this in 48 hours without IT support—including what almost went wrong"
Why it works: Ultra-specific. Addresses the exact fear stopping them from buying.
Real Example
Before (posting daily, no results):
30 posts/month of Stage 1 content:
Engagement: 5-8 likes per post
Impressions: 250-400
Conversions: 0
After (strategic split, less content):
15 posts/month:
20% Stage 1 (3 posts)
30% Stage 2 (5 posts)
50% Stage 3 (7 posts)
Results after 3 months:
Engagement: 15-40 likes per post (right people)
Impressions: 800-2,500 (algorithm rewards engagement)
DMs from qualified prospects: 8-12/month
Conversions: 4 in Q1
The difference? Half the content. Better engagement. Actual revenue.
Your Action Item This Week
Step 1: Audit your last 10 posts. Tag each: Stage 1, 2, or 3.
Step 2: Notice the pattern. (I bet 8-9 are Stage 1.)
Step 3: Create ONE Stage 3 post this week.
Pick the most common objection or question from your last sales call. Answer it specifically.
Example: "Why [customer type] chose us over [competitor]: The 3 factors that mattered most"
It might get 50 views instead of 500.
But those 50 people are evaluating you right now.
And 2 will reach out.
That's better than 5,000 impressions from people who'll never buy.
That's it for this week.
Next issue: Why your website isn't converting (it's not the design—it's the first question visitors ask that you're not answering).
